Doggy Birthday Cake!

I’m sure lots of people love to celebrate their pets birthdays, I hope I’m not the only mad one out there! So this year I decide to make Hudson a special cake for his big day.

Featuring a liver cake ‘sponge’ and a special dog friendly icing and sprinkles, it certainly went down a treat.

We’ve previously shared our liver cake recipe on our Instagram with several of our makes and bakes featuring the simple and always well received cake recipe. Because I was making a slightly smaller cake this time I reduced the amount of each ingredients to prevent waste so it may be slightly different to variations you’ve seen before!

Liver Cake

  • 250g Liver
  • 250g Wholemeal flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups of water

Icing

  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons of thick natural yogurt
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon of corn flour

We used Roxxi’s super meaty sprinkles to decorate our cake! These had been previously gifted to us by the brand. The sprinkles were the perfect splash of colour and according to the pups were super tasty too!

My favourite part about this recipe is how simple it is! I started with the liver and water, threw it all together in my Breville blender and blitzed until smooth.
Once smooth I whisked together with the flour and egg, as simple as that!

Having made this recipe several times before I tend to find the amount of water required varies in each bath so it’s always worth keeping a little extra on hand to add as necessary if the consistency gets too thick.

I baked this small cake in an over a 200 degrees centigrade for 20 minutes and just checked it was cooked all the way through with a knife before allowing to cool.

The icing was made in much the same way quickly blending everything together before spreading on a cooled cake. With a dash of the sprinkles on top the cake was ready to go!

I can confirm the cake was gone in seconds so I assume it was very delicious.
